There are many “themes” in Christianity: family, relationships, community, prosperity, success—you name it. These aren’t bad things in and of themselves, and God’s Word does have a lot to say about these aspects of life. However, when we make the focus of our Christian walk about the themes found within Christianity, we lose the power of the foundation of our faith.
Christianity isn’t about staying happily married. It’s not about sowing and reaping wealth. It’s not even about doing good deeds. It’s about Jesus. It’s about what He did for us on the cross and the relationship we get to have with Him because of His finished work. Everything else stands or falls based on whether or not it’s grounded in the rock, which is Jesus.
The minute we make Christianity about something else, we’ve gotten off track.
