Do you believe that Saturday is the Sabbath?
Colossians 2:16 says, “Therefore, no one is to act as your judge in regard to food and drink, or in respect to a festival or a new moon, or a Sabbath day—” The Old Testament Sabbath was a specific day following the letter of the law. The New Testament–new covenant–Sabbath is a principle that follows the spirit of the law. No, based on Scripture, I don’t believe the Sabbath needs to fall on a specific day. Instead, I believe every believer needs to go to the Lord in prayer and ask God to show us what sort of break He wants us to take. That’s why Colossians is able to tell us not to judge one another about a Sabbath day. It’s not meant to be something governed by the letter, but rather by the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 says, “Not that we are adequate in ourselves so as to consider anything as having come from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” We are servants of a new covenant, and we need to give more priority to the voice of God in our lives. Our life is found in Jesus alone, not in any religious tradition. God bless.
